SAPPHIRE, N.C. -- Overnight rain showers coupled with continued rain on Monday morning and unfavorable forecasts prompted tournament officials to cancel the final round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina.
After shooting 8-under on Sunday, Wofford was declared the team champion after just one round of play.
Freshman Logan Lowe led the Colonials by shooting even-par. Lowe shot 35 going out and 36 coming in for his 71, which included an eagle on the par-5 6th. Lowe, who finished in a tie for 23rd, was five shots back of individual champion Oskar Lundgren of Brevard College, who fired a 5-under 66 on Sunday.
Michael Heda provided a highlight for the Colonials, making it three years in a row that a GW golfer has recorded an ace during the fall season when he made a hole-in-one on No. 7, which was playing 212 yards. Heda went on to shoot a 76 and finish tied for 46th.
Christian Cichan was just behind Heda after shooting 77, while Vince Palazzolo and Lucas Farmer each shot 79. The Colonials (19-over) finished 11th as a team.
The cancellation of the final round on Monday ends the fall portion of George Washington's 2015-16 season. The Colonials return to action in the spring semester at the Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship, which will be held in Weston, Florida, Feb. 22-23.
"We had a bad day at the wrong time," said head coach Chuck Scheinost. "We need to use this disappointment to motivate us to get stronger and better this offseason so we don't let it happen in the spring."
