RALEIGH, N.C. -- A week after leading the George Washington golf team with a 13th-place finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational, redshirt sophomore Christian Cichan is again leading a pack of Colonials at the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate.
Cichan fired a 73 in the opening round at the par-71 Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Monday, putting him in a tie for 15th in the 91-man field, five shots back of the lead.
Cichan, who shot 70-72-72 in last week's Mark Simpson Invitational, has a scoring average of 71.6 over his last five rounds. Starting his day on the 10th hole, Cichan made three birdies during Monday's round, all coming on a five-hole stretch between the 16th and 2nd holes.
Not far behind Cichan are junior Lucas Farmer, who shot a 74 and is in a tie for 28th, and sophomore Vince Palazzolo, who turned in a 75 to sit in a tie for 43rd. Junior Michael Heda (77) and freshman Logan Lowe (84) round out the scoring for GW.
As a team, the Colonials are in 11th place (299) in the 16-team field with West Virginia (289) leading the way. The Mountaineers' Max Sear is tied for the individual lead with Augusta University's Robin Petersson at 3-under par.
Play in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate is set to conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
