Persons' Top-20 Showing Leads GW Golf at Ram Masters

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Senior Jack Persons closed with a 2-over-par 72 to record his 13th career top-20 finish for GW golf at the season-opening Ram Masters Invitational hosted by Colorado State at Fort Collins Country Club.
Persons finished in a seven-way tie for 17th place among 83 golfers with a three-round 8-over 218 (76-70-72). He recorded four birdies on the par-70, 7,121-yard layout for the second straight round en route to Tuesday's closing 72 to finish the event with a team-best nine birdies.
Sophomore Lucas Farmer converted three birdies and equaled Persons' final round 72 to help the Colonials close with a 25-over 305 team total on Tuesday. Farmer improved 11 spots to tie for 63rd at 22-over 232 (76-84-72), while GW placed 13th out of 15 teams at 69-over 909 (304-300-305).
Host Colorado State won the team title with a 15-over 855 total (283-287-285), edging runner-up Kansas by four shots. Wyoming's Drew McCullough captured medalist honors at even-par 210 (68-70-72).
Freshman Vince Palazzolo tied for 55th place in his first collegiate event at 18-over 228 (71-74-83) while juniors Steve Piela (+28, 81-78-79) and Pierre Tillement (+34, 84-78-82) finished 76th and 81st, respectively.
All nine GW golfers will be in action in two weeks at George Mason's Patriot Invitational at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia on Sept. 28-29.
