WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will host Georgetown on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and visit No. 2-ranked Virginia on Wednesday (5:00 p.m.) in a pair of non-conference midweek games.
Senior Owen Beightol continues to pace the Colonials' offense, leading the team with a .325 batting average, nine multiple-hit games, two home runs and 37 total bases while tying for the team lead with nine RBIs and 26 hits.
Junior Ryan Xepoleas carries a seven-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game. The Loomis, Calif., native is batting .292 on the season while leading the team with six doubles and one triple.
The Colonials lead the all-time series against Georgetown, 89-38-1, but lost the most recent meeting, 7-6, on March 19 in a road game played at Barcroft Park due to unplayable field conditions in Bethesda, Md. GW had four players record multiple-hit games but a late rally fell short as the Hoyas earned the victory.
Georgetown (11-13) is 2-6 in road games this year but won two-of-three this past weekend at Grambling State. Steve Anderson leads the Hoyas at the plate with a .344 batting average, five doubles, two home runs and 21 RBIs through 24 games.
Following Tuesday's game, the Colonials will visit No. 2-ranked Virginia at Davenport Field in Charlottesville, Va., on Wednesday. The game is a makeup date after being the originally scheduled contest was postponed due to a winter storm on March 4.
Virginia (23-4) leads the all-time series with GW, 14-5, and has won each of the last five games including last year's 11-0 victory in Charlottesville, Va.
GW's last win over a ranked opponent was against Virginia during the 2008 season. The Colonials upset the then-No. 15 Cavaliers by a score of 17-5 on March 26, 2008.
