WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will open the 2014 season on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference game against UMES at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
It will mark the season opener for both teams after last week's winter storm wiped out competition along the east coast. The Colonials had their series at UNC Greensboro cancelled while UMES was scheduled to fly to Florida for a three-game series at the University of South Florida but were grounded in Baltimore, Md., unable to get a flight out.
The Colonials went 1-1 against UMES last season, earning a 13-7 victory on March 26 and falling 4-1 on April 23. GW has won four of the last five meetings and has scored at least seven runs in each victory.
