WASHINGTON - After knocking off the first nationally ranked opponent of her career this fall, sophomore Lana Robins has secured a No. 17 singles ranking in the Atlantic Region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced.
"Lana gives 100% every day at practice and is a true competitor," said Head Coach Greg Munoz. "Hard work has put GW on the ranking radar and I am looking forward to pushing the limits with this team. They have a lot of fight in them and have shown that with a solid fall season."
A 2013 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team selection as a rookie, Robins posted an overall singles record of 9-4 this fall. The Bellevue, Wash., native paced the Colonials at the 2013 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships where she went 2-1 in singles, which was highlighted by knocking off No. 121 Racluca Mita of Virginia in a three-set thriller.
She posted a four-match win streak dating from Sept. 20 - Oct. 13 and wrapped the fall with a 7-2 mark. Robins reached the title match of the nearby Georgetown Classic where she was edged by teammate senior Leah Pascarella in a three-set tiebreaker.
Robins and GW open the 2014 season on Saturday, Jan. 25 with an 11 a.m. match against Maryland.
