WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team was back in action on Monday morning as the Colonials kicked off the 2013 spring season with practice at the East Potomac Tennis Center.
Following fall 2012 competition and a month-long winter break, GW returned to the courts for its first practice of its championship season. The Buff and Blue have two weeks to prepare for their first contest - a 1 p.m. match at Old Dominion on Saturday, Jan. 26.
"It was great to be back on the courts today for our first practice of the spring," said ninth-year head coach Dawn Buth. "Today was a good time to gauge where we are physically and what areas we need to improve upon. We had a great fall season and we're going to use that as momentum."
The Colonials return four letterwinners to the 2012-13 lineup in juniors Isabella Escobar and two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team selection Leah Pascarella, in addition to seniors Mimi Hamling and Dorota Lysienia. GW welcomes four freshmen - Christina Carpenter, Egle Jakuciunaite, Lana Robins and Stephanie Wei - all of whom garnered playing experience for the Buff and Blue throughout tournaments last fall.
