GW Golf Wraps Up Hartford Hawk Invitational in Eighth

SOUTH KENT, Conn. - The George Washington golf team closed out the final round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational on Tuesday with a third-round score of 18-over par 306 to finish in eighth with a combined tally of 47-over par 911 through 54 holes.
Host Hartford won the 16-team event with a three-round score of 11-over par 875 and fellow Atlantic 10 member Brandon Matthews of Temple claimed medalist honors with a total score of 2-under 214 at the par-72 Bull's Bridge Golf Club.
Boston College and Sacred Heart tied for second with matching scores of 31-over 895 and league member Rhode Island finished fourth with a 33-over 897. Connecticut finished fifth with a combined score of 35-over 899 and Temple finished in sixth with a 39-over 903. Rutgers finished just three strokes ahead of GW with a 44-over 908 to take home seventh place.
Freshman Carlos Pena paced the Colonials for the second day with a 54-hole score of 7-over 223 to tie for 11th after carding a 4-over 148 through his first two rounds.
Junior Graham Lawyer tied for 35th with a three-round score of 15-over 231 and sophomores Jonathan Dresnick and Jack Persons tied for 39th just one stroke behind Lawyer with combined scores of 16-over 232.
GW takes a three-week break before returning to the links at the two-day Donald Ross Intercollegiate in Morganton, N.C. Action at Mimosa Hills Country Club is scheduled for Oct. 15-16.
