Jack Persons Named A-10 Golf Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington golf freshman Jack Persons was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Thursday after helping the Colonials to a fourth-place finish at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate Invitational.

It marks the second weekly honor of the season for the San Francisco, Calif., native, who was tabbed both A-10 Performer and Rookie of the Week after setting new GW program 36- and 54-hole scoring records at the ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate back in October.

Persons shot a three-round score of 14-over 230 to finish tied for 14th out of 50 golfers at the par-72 Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Ala. He fired his best round on Tuesday with a 2-over 74 to help GW finish fourth out of nine teams at the two-day event.

The rookie sat in a tie for 22nd place through 36 holes on Day 1 after shooting back-to-back scores of 6-over 78, but Persons' final round of 74 helped him climb the leaderboard and finish just seven strokes behind the runners-up.

Persons and the Colonials return to the links on Friday, April 13 when they visit Farmville, Va., for the two-day Longwood/Manor Intercollegiate.
