GW Women's Hoops Falls at Duquesne, 76-50

PITTSBURGH - The GW women's basketball team fell to Atlantic 10 Conference rival Duquesne, 76-50, on Saturday afternoon at the Dukes' A.J. Palumbo Center.
The Colonials (9-10, 2-3 A-10) shot 52 percent in the first half but trailed, 44-29, at the break, as Duquesne (14-5, 2-2 A-10) made 50 percent of its shots and outrebounded GW, 7-0, on the offensive glass, which led to nine second-chance points.
GW trailed by just two points, 18-16, at the 12:16 mark, but the Dukes used an 18-5 run over the next 6:20 to take control of the game. The Colonials scored six straight to pull back within single digits, 36-27, with 2:05 to play in the half, but Duquesne tallied eight of the final 10 points of the period for the 15-point halftime advantage.
The Colonials struggled from the floor in the second stanza, making just nine of 25 shots, while it was more of the same for the Dukes, who opened the half with a 15-2 run. Duquesne made seven of their first nine second-half attempts to take a 59-33 lead with 13:17 to go, and held a game-high 28-point advantage, 72-44, with 4:05 left.
Junior Megan Nipe led GW with 14 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Junior Danni Jackson scored nine points, while freshman Chakecia Miller finished with eight on 4-of-7 shooting.
Duquesne forward Wumi Agunbiade scored a game-high 21 points on a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor, while forward Orsi Szecsi posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Dukes outrebounded the Colonials, 45-28, including 15-7 on the offensive glass.
GW returns to the Smith Center on Wednesday evening to host Atlantic 10 rival Saint Louis.
