National Search Underway For New Cross Country Coach

WASHINGTON, D.C.- A national search is under way to find the next George Washington cross country head coach following Brian Beil's resignation. Beil has stepped down from his position at GW to accept the head coach position at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla.
"The decision to move on has been by far the most difficult I have made in my life to date, and it is with a heavy heart that I leave Foggy Bottom" said Beil. "Over my nine years as a coach at GW I have had the pleasure to come in contact with some truly outstanding individuals who have shaped me as both a person and a coach. I do not have the words to express just how much I will miss the student-athletes, alumni, administration and fellow coaches I am leaving behind."
Beil served as head coach at GW for seven seasons following two seasons as an assistant coach.
"Brian has been very committed to the success of the cross country program here at GW," said Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Mary Jo Warner. "His work over the past nine years has not only elevated the level of athletic competition but the level of academic achievement as well. We appreciate his dedication to improving the program and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Under Beil's leadership the GW cross country program produced its first ever All-American performer in Megan Hogan, who earned the honor in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Hogan became the first GW runner to win an individual Atlantic 10 Championship, a feat she accomplished in consecutive seasons along with being named the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year. Beil coached her to 27th (of 255) and eighth (of 253) place finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Coach Beil's influence has not only been seen on the running trails, but in the classroom as well. Through his seven seasons as head coach, Beil has had his athletes earn a total of 65 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll certificates. Additionally, Hogan has twice been named the A-10 Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year.
"The bulk of my adult life has revolved around working with the student-athletes at GW to help them grow into successful runners and professionals in their field," Beil said. "While I will miss them dearly and always be a Colonials fan at heart, I am excited for this new opportunity and feel it is time to begin the next chapter in my life."
