MIAMI GARDENS, FL - The GW golf team lost a narrow match to St. Thomas University, 311-309, Monday during its spring break training trip. Miami native Andres Pumariega won medalist honors with a two-over-par 74 at the par-72, 6,681-yard Westview Country Club.
The reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week, Pumariega edged St. Thomas's Derek Wilcox (73) and Jacob Good (73) by one stroke and teammate Brendan Barrack (74) by two strokes.
The Colonials played without junior Martin Liu who was called away for a job interview but is expected to rejoin the team at this weekend's GW Invitational.
GW next hosts the GW Invitational, Mar. 18-19, 2011, at Bethany Beach, DE. The 54-hole event takes place at the par 72, 6,834-yard Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.
