MORGANTON, N.C. - Senior Andres Pumariega finished with a three-round score of 6-over par 216 to lead the George Washington men's golf team to an eighth-place showing Tuesday at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State. Pumariega fired a 2-over 72 all three rounds to pace the Colonials and finished tied for 15th-place individually.

The Colonials finished eighth out of 11 teams with a total team score of 53-over 893. Senior Martin Liu, who fired a third-round 4-over 74 Tuesday, followed Pumariega's 15th-place finish in a tie for 21st at 9-over 219.

GW competed against the host Mountaineers, as well as Gardner-Webb, High Point, Lynn, UMES, Presbyterian, Radford, Stetson, Elon and Western Carolina at the par-70, 6,540-yard course at Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. Florida's Lynn University finished first with a team total of 13-over 853, and Presbyterian's Matt Sizemore and Gardner-Webb's Kristopher Gray tied for medalist honors with a three-round total of 7-under 203.

Senior Taylor Fuqua shot a third round 78 to finish at 19-over 229 and tie for 46th. After shooting a 74 on Tuesday, classmate Brandon Rukin finished one stroke behind Fuqua with a three-round 20-over 230 and tied for 49th. Junior Brennan Wallman finished 61st with a score of 37-over 247.

GW returns to North Carolina this Sunday, Oct. 23 for the ODU/OBX Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Old Dominion. The tournament will take place from Oct. 23 - 25 at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
