Volleyball Throttles La Salle, 3-0

WASHINGTON, DC -- The George Washington volleyball team rolled to its fourth straight victory Thursday night against visiting La Salle, 3-0, in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials won by the scores, 25-15, 25-10, 25-17 in just 79 minutes. It marked GW's eighth victory in its last 10 matches and they moved into a tie for second place in the A-10 standings with Xavier.
The Colonials held La Salle to a combined hitting percentage of .070 (30k-22e-115att) while GW hit a sturdy .292 on 35 kills in 96 attacks with just seven errors.
All 15 Colonials saw action Thursday and 11 recorded at least one kill. Senior co-captain Katie Zulandt led all players with an errorless eight kills in 13 swings for a .615 hitting percentage. Sophomore libero Candace Silva-Martin had a match-high 21 digs including the 1,000th dig of her career coming near the end of the first set. Senior Hannah Stuart added an efficient .429 hitting percentage on her season-high four kills in seven attempts with a block solo. Junior Alex Coward went on a serving spree with five aces to blow open the second set.
La Salle (4-18, 0-6) was led by Kelly Scanlon and Jacquelyn Mitrovich with seven kills each. Breanna Mazalewski added 17 digs for the Explorers.
GW (16-7, 5-1 A-10) will aim for its fifth straight triumph this Sunday, Oct. 17, when it hosts Temple (4-15, 1-4 A-10) in an A-10 match at 1 p.m.
