LEMONT, IL -- GW sophomore Martin Liu fired a three-round 229 (78-74-77) to place 17th in the 86-player field at the John Dallio Memorial played Sunday and Monday in Lemont, IL. The tournament was hosted by DePaul University. The Colonials' 54-hole total 929 (310-304-315) was good for fifth place in the 16-team tournament played at the 6,898-yard, par-72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club just southwest of Chicago.
Junior Brendan Barrack turned in a 230 (74-78-78) to tie for 18th place, one stroke behind Liu and three strokes ahead of teammate Tyler Wendelken's 233 (77-75-81). Also competing for GW in the event were seniors Cole Turner (85-77-79--241) who tied for 54th, and Michael Permutter (81-79-82--242) who tied for 57th. Liu carded five birdies and averaged 4.7 strokes on the par-5 holes.
The Colonials defeated the only other Atlantic 10 Conference team in the tournament, Dayton (939, 12th) by 10 strokes and edged local rival Georgetown (930, tie-66th) by a stroke.
The host Blue Demons won the event with a 16-over-par 880 (293-289-298) on their home course and was 18 strokes ahead of runner-up Detroit Mercy (898). Western Illinois was third with a three-round 891.
DePaul's Greg Doherty won medalist honors with a 1-over 217 after a first-round 68 (68-73-76) to edge teammate Charles Boucher (71-72-75--218) by a stroke.
The Colonials next compete in the Scotty Duncan Memorial hosted by Delaware, Oct. 4-5, at Wilmington, DE.
