Colonials Split Doubleheader Against Saint Louis

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team (20-28, 9-11 A-10) played a doubleheader Saturday with the threat of raining in the Washington, DC area tomorrow and split to move their A-10 record to 9-11. In the first game, the Colonials used a complete game effort by Pat Lehman to key a 7-5 victory, but dropped a 7-3 decision in the nightcap to split the two games.
The first game was keyed by big efforts by junior Tom Zebroski, redshirt junior Sean Rockey and first baseman Tim Reeves. Zebroski collected four hits and Rockey and Reeves had three hits each to supply all the offense the Colonials needed for Lehman in the victory. Reeves also knocked in three runs and Rockey knocked in two of his own.
Lehman continued to give George Washington big innings on the mound, with his fifth complete game effort of the season. He also improved to 6-3 on the season and still maintains a very low 2.35 ERA on the year.
Saint Louis (24-24, 8-12 A-10) was led by first baseman Danny Brock, who collected two hits in the contest. Zach Miller also hit a home run for the Billikens, which was their first run they pushed across against Lehman.
George Washington went for the sweep in the nightcap, but weren't able to push through in the second game. The Colonials took an early 2-0 lead, but four Billiken runs in the middle innings gave them a lead they would not give up the rest of the way. Senior Chris Neary started the game for the Colonials and gave up three runs in three innings pitched, and junior Ryan Lapointe pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief in the contest. Freshman Luke Mirabella and Marshall Seedorff combined for the final two outs in the game.
The Colonials will return to action next Friday, May 8th when they host Xavier in the final series at Barcroft Park in the 2009 season. George Washington now sits in eighth place in the A-10 standings, one game out of the sixth spot currently occupied by Fordham.
