Baseball Weathers the Storm to Top SLU, 11-10

GW's bats were hot early as the Revolutionaries erupted for nine runs over the game's first four innings. Highlighting the scoring outburst was an RBI triple from Robbie Lavey in the third inning, followed by a three-run homer from him one inning later in the fourth.
Despite the sizable lead, it wasn't safe, as the home team plated nine runs of its own over the next three innings to knot the score heading into the ninth.
Fortunately for the GW faithful, the Revolutionaries are no stranger to close games. The Buff & Blue's late-game heroics once again came through with runs in the eighth and ninth to take an 11-9 lead. Sam Gates ripped an RBI single into right field to reclaim the lead in the eighth, while Conlon Walker doubled the advantage with a solo home run in the ninth. SLU threatened with an RBI double with two outs in the ninth, but Teddy Brennan sealed the final out of the contest to keep GW's postseason hopes alive.
The Revolutionaries now have two scenarios to clinch a playoff spot in next week's Atlantic 10 Championship. The Buff & Blue are in with a win tomorrow in the series finale or a Dayton loss to St. Bonaventure tomorrow at noon.
