Baseball Drops Game One at Saint Louis

After the Billikens posted two runs in the first and third, GW finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth via an RBI double to left-center field, scoring Sam Gates from second base.
SLU threatened to break the game open in the fifth, loading the bases with just one out. That's when the game was halted due to lightning in the area for nearly an hour. After play resumed, GW limited the Billikens to just one run, making the deficit 5-1.
Saint Louis erupted for five runs in the sixth, stretching the lead to 10-1. GW got one back in the seventh off a sacrifice fly from Cristino Tufano, but SLU proceeded to post a three-run homer in the home half of the inning to make it 13-2.
GW's offense mustered a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Ellis Schwartz and two more in the ninth courtesy of Schwartz's two-RBI single, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.
GW falls to an even 26-26 on the season, including a 13-15 mark in the Atlantic 10. Fordham, Dayton and Richmond all lost on Thursday as well, keeping the teams in a four-way tie for the final two spots in the A-10 Championship with two games to play in the regular season.
