30 Years of Women's Soccer Honored Over Weekend

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW Department of Athletics, Head Women's Soccer Coach Tanya Vogel and the University's Division of Development and Alumni Relations honored the Women's Soccer program on campus Saturday, Feb. 7. Nearly 30 years ago, the sport of women's soccer became part of the George Washington University athletic community, making GW one of the oldest Division I Women's Soccer programs in the country. Ranging from 1982 through 2007, 18 soccer alumni and coaches returned to Charles E. Smith Center at a men's basketball game and were greeted at halftime at center court by Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz and Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Mary Jo Warner. Included in the group were several All-America players, an Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, multiple team MVPs and Atlantic 10 All-Academic team members. Following the game, the soccer alums met for a celebratory reception at 2000 Penn's Bertucci's Restaurant.
