WINTER GARDEN, FL -- GW freshman Brendan Barrack shot a one-over-par 217 (78-70-69) to tie for 14th place among 60 golfers at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, Friday through Sunday, at the par-72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake course, part of the Orange County National Golf Center near Orlando. Barrack had an eagle and nine birdies in the 54-hole tournament as the Colonials placed ninth in the 12-team field.
Fifth-ranked Charlotte claimed its third-straight Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship finishing with a 23-stroke cushion in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship. Charlotte earns the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Golf championship and will be making its fourth-straight NCAA appearance.
Dayton junior Rob Chappell earned Dayton's first-ever individual medalist honor shooting an 11-under 205 in the three-day Championship. It was the third consecutive time that a player shot a 68 on the final day of play to merit top honors. Dayton freshman Chris Woeste (T8th-214) captured the league's Rookie of the Year award as the top freshman finisher while Charlotte head coach Jamie Green earned his third-straight Coach of the Year award in a vote of the league's coaches.
In all, 13 golfers finished at or below par for the Championship.
GW junior Lewis Sturdy fired a four-over-par 220 putting him in a tie for 25th place. Senior Conor McMahon signed an incorrect scorecard for Saturday's round which disqualified his second-round score.
"It was a very disappointing result but Brendan's and Lewis's play really bodes well for next season," coach Scott Allen said.
