ARLINGTON, VA - The Blue team took a two games to none advantage in the best-of-five series Thursday, in the annual Buff and Blue Fall Series. Ryan Lapointe went five strong innings, allowing no runs and scattering three hits to earn the victory. Justin Dignelli took the loss for the Buff team, allowing three runs on four hits in four innings.
The Blue took a 1-0 lead in the second when Will Cooper was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on Brandon Gillette's sacrifice bunt and later scored on Chris Holland's infield single. The Blue tacked on two more runs in the fourth when Gillette hit a one-out double and scored on a double-steal. Later in the inning, Stephen Oswald, who walked, scored on a suicide squeeze by Joey Motto.
The Buff threatened in the sixth and seventh off freshman right hander Marshall Seedorff, but after loading the bases with less than two outs, they were unable to score.
