PITTSBURGH, PA - Four different players scored as the George Washington women's soccer team scored its most lopsided Atlantic 10 Conference victory in six seasons in a 4-0 shutout at Duquesne Sunday afternoon.
Seniors Meg Pyle and Erica Wright and sophomore Kristen Slack all scored in the first half as the Colonials cruised to their third conference victory of the season.
Pyle got the game-winning goal in the 13th minute out of a corner kick situation. Wright added to the lead 24 minutes later when she converted a penalty kick and Slack capped the dominant first half with her second goal of the season off freshman Taryn Dietrich's first collegiate assist in the 42nd minute.
Junior Misa Eiritz secured GW's largest conference win since 2002 with her fourth goal of the season with four minutes remaining. Pyle, Wright and Eiritz are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece this season. Wright leads GW with 11 points (4g/3a).
Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe made nine saves for her fifth shutout of the season. The shutout is also the sixth of the season for the Colonials' defense. GW held a 17-10 edge in shots and 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The four-goal victory was GW's largest conference win since a 5-1 home win against Fordham on Oct. 25, 2002. It was also the Colonials' largest margin in shutout fashion against a conference foe since blanking St. Bonaventure 5-0 on Oct. 4, 2002.
GW (7-7-0, 3-3-0 A-10) is in a three-way tie with Richmond and St. Bonaventure for sixth place in the A-10 standings with nine points. The top six teams in the final standings qualify for the A-10 Championship.
The three conference victories equal the most for GW in four seasons with five matches remaining.
The Colonials host Saint Louis (seven points) and league-leader Charlotte (15 points) at Mount Vernon Field next weekend.
