REHOBOTH BEACH, DE - GW senior Tim Johnson fired a two-round 146 (76-70) to place fifth at the seventh annual Rehoboth Beach Invitational Monday on the Delaware Shore. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by The George Washington University, was held at the par-71, 6,480-yard Kings Creek C.C. in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Johnson was five strokes back of medalist Steve Ransom (141) of Drexel. Ransom's first-round 67 was the low round of the tournament and the only sub-70 round of the day. His nine birdies was the most of any competitor over the 36 holes. Ransom's teammate Sean Semenetz (144) was the runner and their performances helped lead Drexel to the team title with a total of 585.
Colonials senior Danny Brooker carded a 147 (72-75), including 29 pars, to tie for sixth place among 55 individuals.
The Colonials Gold Team placed sixth shooting a 602 (300-302) four strokes behind the GW Blue Team (598). to edge the GW A team by a stroke. GW sophomore Cole Turner recorded six birdies on the day and tied for 13th place with a 149 (76-73).
"This week, like two weeks ago at Navy, the play of both of our teams showed that we are the deepest team in the Northeast," GW coach Scott Allen said. "In the coming weeks we have to do a better job of gutting out decent scores when guys don't have their A game. If we can turn our bad rounds into 76s or 77s, instead of 80s we'll be in much better shape."
The Colonials next play in the 54-hole Xavier Invitational, Oct. 1-2, at Loveland, OH, near Cincinnati.
