Colonials Place Fifth at A-10 Golf Championship

WINTER GARDEN, FL -- GW junior Conor McMahon (Portsmouth, RI) shot a one-under-par 215 (70-73-72) to tie for 13th place among 60 golfers at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship, Friday through Sunday, at the par-72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake course near Orlando. McMahon tallied a team-best 13 birdies in the 54-hole tournament.
Charlotte held off second-place Xavier to claim the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship at the Orange County National Golf Center. The 49ers shot a 15-under 273 on the par-72, 6,837-yard Panther Lake course on the final day. Charlotte won the team title by nine strokes over Xavier (833) with their 54-hole total of 824. Charlotte earns the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Golf championship and will be making its third-straight NCAA appearance.
GW co-captain and team MVP Tim Johnson (Marblehead, MA) fired a 6-over-par 222 putting him in a four-way tie for 24th place along with teammate Bob Rohr (Lake Forest, IL). Rohr, playing in his final collegiate event, carded GW's only eagle in the tournament.
St. Bonaventure placed third with an 867, followed by Richmond in fourth place with an 875 and George Washington in fifth place with an 877. Saint Joseph's (883), Rhode Island (887), Temple (895), Dayton (885), Duquesne (917), Fordham (935), and La Salle (954) rounded out the 12-team field.
The 49ers placed four golfers among the top 10 finishers, led by the individual medalist senior Matt Mincer. Mincer shot a three-day total of 14-under 202 to pace the field, including an opening round of 64, in earning his first A-10 medalist title. Junior teammate Andrew DiBitetto finished second at 204 and Charlotte rookie Corey Nagy earned the Rookie of the Year award as the top rookie finisher posting a 208 to tie for third-place. Junior Jonas Enander Hedin finished tied for 10th with a 213. All four golfers earned All-Conference honors for finishing in the top 10.
Joining Charlotte's top four finishers on the All-Conference team were all five of Xavier's golfers: seniors Jason Kokrak (tied third, 208) and John Streibich (fourth, 210), junior Brian Keating (sixth, 211), sophomore Michael Beausejour (tied seventh, 212) and freshman Alan Glynn (tied seventh, 212). Saint Joseph's senior Phil Arouca (tied seventh, 212) and Richmond sophomore Tim Courtney (tied 10th, 213) round out the 2007 All-Conference team.
Charlotte head coach Jamie Green was named the A-10 Coach of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches upon completion of the Championship.
