Florida Baseball Overpowers George Washington

GAINESVILLE, FL - George Washington (1-9) fell behind 11-0 after five innings and never recovered, losing to the University of Florida (9-6) by a final of 20-3 Sunday afternoon at McKethan Stadium. The win completed Florida's three-game series sweep over GW.
Florida jumped out early on Sunday, scoring three runs in the first inning, two in the second and another four in the third. The Gators scored at least one run in all eight trips to the plate. Senior Austin Pride led the way for the Gators, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs and three RBI.
Freshman Billy Bullock (2-2) picked up the win after he allowed no runs and just three hits in five innings of work.
George Washington erased the shutout in the sixth inning when junior Charlie Kruer (2) blasted a solo home run to left field. The Colonials added a run in the seventh as freshman Mike DeVito came home on a fielder's choice hit by fellow freshman Chris Holland.
Freshman Jon Chirumbolo doubled down the right field line in the eighth inning to plate junior Whitey Wallace and give GW its third and final run of the game. Junior Gavin Swanson recorded two of the seven Colonial hits. Senior Michael Parker was held hitless (0-for-4) for the first time this season, snapping his nine-game hitting streak.
Bobby Lucas (0-1), one of 14 freshmen on the team, was tagged with the loss in his first collegiate start and surrendered five runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Florida dominated the three games against GW. The Gators outscored the Colonials 51-8, hit .407 (48-for-118), smashed 13 doubles and slugged five home runs.
George Washington will look to snap their current three-game losing streak in their 2007 home debut against George Mason on Wednesday, Mar. 7. First pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
