Golf Falls to New Orleans in Spring Break Dual

LAPLACE, LA -- George Washington's Eddie Newland was the low Colonial with a one-under-par 71 Friday at at Riverlands Country Club near New Orleans, LA. Newland recorded four birdies on the front nine and had a total of five birdie for his career-low round. His effort for the round paced GW's `Blue' team.
GW teammate Lewis Sturdy was the second-lowest Colonial after he birdied five holes on the back nine for a 33 after the turn. His total of 73 was two strokes behind Newland, which put him in a tie for fourth place in the 17-player field.
The University of New Orleans won the event by 11 strokes over GW's `Blue' squad. UNO's Adam Cornelson's 4-under par 68 won the match.
GW junior Danny Brooker participated in the event with a heavy heart after learning that his grandfather has passed away earlier in the day. Brooker's participation allowed the Colonials to field two teams.
Next up for the Colonials will be the 36-hole GW Invitational on Mar. 24-25 at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club located in Bethany Beach, DE.
