BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A.D. Vassallo scored 11 of his 18 points in the second half and Virginia Tech beat George Washington 68-36 Sunday.
Deron Washington added 17 points for the Hokies (5-3), and Jeff Allen recorded his fourth double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
George Washington (3-4) shot 26 percent, hitting just 5 of 27 field goals in the first half to trail 30-14 at the break.
Cheyenne Moore scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half and was the only Colonials player to score in double digits.
Virginia Tech outscored George Washington 34-10 in the paint, with 22 of those points coming in the second half.
Vassallo was 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Two of his 3-pointers came in the opening minutes of the second half as Virginia Tech went ahead by 24 points with 16:29 left to play. The Hokies followed with a 12-0 run in the next 5 1/2 minutes to take a 55-23 lead with 10:40 remaining.
The Colonials answered with an 8-2 run capped by five points from Moore to get to within 26 points, but George Washington could get no closer.
Maureece Rice's jumper tied it at 4 apiece with 15:08 remaining in the first half, but the Hokies answered with a 9-0 run over the next five minutes. Damian Hollis' two free throws with 3:38 to play before the break were the Colonials last two goals, as Virginia Tech scored nine unanswered points to close out the first half.
Virginia Tech's win evened the all-time series at 36 apiece.
