UVA Hands GW Baseball 11-5 Loss

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The University of Virginia (9-2) scored two runs in the second, four in the third and added three runs in the fifth inning to open a 7-0 lead and cruise to an 11-5 victory over George Washington University (1-4) Tuesday afternoon at Davenport Field.
LHP Sean Doolittle (2-0) started for the Cavaliers and struck out six and gave up three hits in six innings to earn the win. Doolittle also batted third in the order and went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Colonials' RHP Josh Wilkie (1-1) struggled in his second start of the season, getting stung for seven earned runs on nine hits and five walks in five innings.
UVA freshman third baseman Jeremy Farrell went 2-for-2 with a double, triple and a run scored.
GW centerfielder Matt Owens (Fayetteville, GA / Fayette County) connected for a two-run bases loaded double and pinch hitter Whitey Wallace (Syracuse, NY / Phillip Exeter Academy) added an RBI single to help GW score four times in the eighth inning, cutting its deficit to 11-4.
The Colonials head to College Park, MD, Wednesday to face Maryland for the first time in three years. Game time is 3:00 pm.
RHP Derrik Lutz (Grantville, PA / Lower Dauphin) gets the nod for GW.
