GW Baseball Holds 9th Annual Home Run Golf Classic

GAINESVILLE, VA - The George Washington University baseball program held its Ninth Annual GW Baseball Home Run Golf Classic Monday, July 25, at the Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club as more than 100 Colonials' alumni, staff and supporters attended the fund-raising golf outing.
The top sponsor of the event was Bill Collins `72, former star catcher and member of GW's Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Collins also served as the tournament chairman for the ninth straight year.
Special guest and speaker was Tim Cullen, former second baseman for the Washington Senators ('66-'71).
Other GW alumni who sponsored the event were former baseball players Russ Ramsey '81, Kevin Fitzgerald '85, Todd Pitsinger '92, Bob Tallent '68, Sam Perlozzo '73, Jodie Wampler '73 and John Flaherty '90.
The day began with a catered lunch, followed by a round of golf and then an awards dinner. The event concluded with an auction emceed by former Colonials' baseball head coach John Castleberry. Sports memorabilia, Washington Nationals and Redskins tickets and a number of golf-vacation packages were among the items auctioned off to raise money for the baseball program.
