ARLINGTON, VA - George Washington University (9-7) posted a five-run third inning and freshman starter RHP Brian Frazier (Allentown, PA / Emmaus) (2-0) allowed just a run in seven innings as the Colonials opened a three-game home series with Cleveland State University (2-7) Friday with a 9-4 victory.
Frazier was outstanding in his third career collegiate start as he struck out seven and yielded four hits in the win.
GW's five-run third inning came with RBI singles from leftfielder Josh Goldberg (Albany, NY / Albany Academy) and catcher Andrew Abokhair (Ashburn, VA / Broad Run). Goldberg went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in the contest.
The Colonials made it 7-1 in the fourth inning when right fielder Brad Rosenblat (New Orleans, LA / Newman / Tulane) followed second baseman Tom Shanley's (Stanfordville, NY / Pine Plains) double with a two-run home run (4).
Shanley's double extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Colonials' catcher Joe Michalski (Ellicott City, MD / Mt. Hebron) came off the bench to pinch-hit in the eighth inning and slammed a two-run home run (3), his third in as many days.
The Vikings did not produce an extra-base hit in the game. Catcher Dominic Erney had the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
CSU starter LHP Mike Ochwat (0-2) lasted three innings and gave up four earned runs on eight hits.
Game two of the three game series between GW and CSU is set for Saturday at 1:00 pm. Sunday's start time is 12:00 pm.
