KITTY HAWK, NC -- George Washington's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL) came within two strokes of winning his second tournament of the season Tuesday at the 26th annual ODU/Seascape Collegiate tournament. Carroll carded a three-under-par 139 (70-69) to finish second behind James Madison's Scott Marino at the par-71, 6,256-yard Seascape Golf Course.
Carroll's effort helped the Colonials gain a share of second place with Kennesaw State in the 15-team tournament. The host Monarchs of Old Dominion won the tournament by six strokes. ODU sophomore Stan Guerrero got a hole-in-one on the 18-yard, par 3 fourth hole.
It marked the 14th straight top-5 finish for the Colonials dating back to last season. Twelve of those 14 tournaments produced a first- or second-place finish.
GW's Andrew Gallo (Toronto, ONT) was the second-lowest Colonial after firing a 143 (71-72). Gallo tied for 12th, three strokes ahead of teammate Tim Johnson (Marblehead, MA) whose 146 was good for a tie for 24th place.
The ODU tournament closed out the Fall portion of the 2005-06 schedule in which GW posted an impressive head-to-head record of 67-6-3. The Colonials will resume play in the Spring.
