Golf Takes Fifth at Baylor Invitational

WACO, TX -- The George Washington golf team placed fifth in the competitive 14-team field at the Baylor Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, at the 7,243-yard, par-72 Bear Ridge Golf Club near Waco, TX. The Colonials have a string of 11 straight Top 5 finishes dating back to last season.
The host Baylor Bears won the event with a 54-hole total 862. Baylor is ranked 33rd in the nation in the latest GolfWeek/Sagarin ratings. The Colonials combined to shoot a total 887 and placed ahead of two other ranked teams, Sam Houston State (54th) and Louisiana-Monroe (85th).
The A-10 Performer of the Week, GW's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL) carded a 221 (74-74-73) to tie for 19th out of 84 total individuals.
"I was very pleased with our consistency," GW head coach Scott Allen said. "This was a field of southern schools with traditionally tough golf programs. For us, the main difference between last week [GW's victory in the William & Mary Joe Agee Invitational] and this week was that no one broke par or went low."
GW's 42 birdies was the third-highest total in the tournament. Baylor's Jeremy Alcorn tied Lamar's Justin Harding for the individual title, each with a five-under-par 211.
GW junior Bob Rohr (Lake Forest, IL) and teammate Raman Luthra (East Amherst, NY) tied for 27th with a pair of 223s. Rohr carded 10 birdies over the 54 holes.
The Colonials' next competition is at Penn's Big Five Classic, Oct. 15-16, at Flourtown, PA, near Philadelphia.
