Greg Conden Wins A-10 Pitcher of the Week Award

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington's senior ace pitcher Greg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) has been named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today. Conden wins the award for the second time having been so honored previously on February 24th. Conden (4-1) pitched his 32nd career victory in an 11-strikeout win over Delaware on March 13th.
Conden earned his fourth win of the year after pitching 8 2/3 innings in George Washington's 5-2 defeat of Delaware. He struck out 11 without issuing a walk and gave up only four hits in the game. The two runs that came across in the bottom of the ninth were unearned and Conden's ERA improved to 2.76, tops among Colonials starters. His 35 strikeouts, in 32 2/3 innings pitched, also leads George Washington.
Conden shares this week's honor with Richmond's ace Tim Stauffer who has also won the award twice. The Colonials and rival Richmond have each won six Atlantic 10 honors this year, the most among A-10 opponents. The two team's will meet in a rematch of last year's Atlantic 10 Championship towards the end of the regular season. The three-game series will be held in Richmond, VA with a doubleheader starting at noon on Friday, May 2nd and a game at noon on Saturday, May 3rd.
In his fourth year as the clubs ace, Conden is eclipsing several GW records. He started the year by surpassing his pitching coach Dennis Healy (George Washington '96) for the most games started at GW. They had been tied at 47 to start the year and Conden now leads the list with 52. On March 7th, Conden became the all-time winningest pitcher in Colonials history when he picked up his 31st win. With the victory, Conden broke a 32-year old record previously held by GW Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Bunnell (1968-1971). As the Colonials prepare for Atlantic 10 action this weekend against Rhode Island, Conden already has 32 career victories with many more starts to come.
Conden will start Tuesday's game against Georgetown looking to win his fifth game of the season. The Colonials have won nine-straight and are off to their best start since 1957.
