Baseball Alumnus Mike Toomey Named to MASA Hall of Fame

WASHINGTON, DC - Colonials Baseball alumnus and former coach Mike Toomey (George Washington '74) will be honored by the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association on Friday, November 14, when he is inducted into the MASA Hall of Fame at the organization's annual dinner at the Inner Habor Marriott in Baltimore. In other baseball news, the Colonials 2003 recruiting class was named among the Nation's best by Collegiate Baseball. GW joined Richmond and Xavier as the only Atlantic 10 schools to make the Collegiate Baseball list of top recruiting classes.
Toomey, a native of Hyattsville, MD, was named to the Colonials Athletics Hall of Fame in 1989. He played for GW for the 1973 and 1974 seasons and later served as the team's head coach from 1976-80. As the coach, Toomey amassed a 102-82 record and led the club to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1979. Today Toomey is recognized as a 'top scout' for the overachieving Montreal Expos.
Former Dodgers manager and Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda will be the guest speaker at Hall of Fame induction dinner. Like Toomey, Lasorda is never at a loss for words and is quite an entertaining speaker! Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and the banquet will start at 7 o'clock.Tickets are $55 for MASA members and $65 for non-members. The Colonials who went to the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 2003 for the fourth-straight year will begin their 2004 season at Norfolk State on Wednesday, February 11, 2003 at 1:00 pm.
