WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week the conference office has announced. The honor is the first given out this season and was based on season-to-date games and statistics.
Bassett has been a strong contributor for the Colonials through the early part of this season. He has scored in each of the 14 games he has played and has collected 22 hits in 55-at-bats (.400) with 15 runs. He has hit two home runs, both in the seventh inning against Towson University on March 8th, giving him four RBI's at the same time. In the same game he also scored two more runs after being walked twice. Bassett has now notched 13 RBI's in all, six doubles, five walks, and two stolen bases. He has had six multi-hit games, one while at the Clash of the Conferences Tournament, hosted by Cal State Northridge, when GW played Purdue on March 3rd. Against the Boilermakers, Bassett went 4 for 4. Following the game, he was named to the All-Tournament Team for his combined tournament stats which included a .500 batting average, 6 hits in 12-at-bats, three runs scored, and one RBI.
Bassett and the Colonials next play the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Thursday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. The game will be played at Barcroft Park and will be GW's fifth home game of the season.
