Women's Tennis Loses to Maryland, 7-0

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's tennis team lost to Maryland, 7-0, Wednesday in a three-and-a-half-hour match at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The loss dropped GW's record to 3-5 in the spring while Maryland improved to 5-2.
"Nazli [Gencsoy] and Katarina [Stastny] played a great doubles match," GW coach Helen Andrews said. "Nazli also played a brilliant first set at No. 2 singles."
For the fourth straight match, the Colonials were without their No. 4 singles player, freshman Sevla Gonca (Ankara, Turkey/Bilkent) who suffered a knee injury in practice last week.
Junior Samantha Fisher (Greenwich, CT/Benjamin School) is working her way back from an elbow fracture and competing at the No. 6 singles spot for the Colonials.
Next up for the Colonials is a match against West Virginia on Saturday, Mar. 2, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club in Pittsburgh, PA.
