RICHMOND, VA - The Spiders made an impressive entrance into the Atlantic 10 Conference by knocking off George Washington, 6-1, in women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond.
Richmond won five of six singles matches on the day, all of which came in straight sets. Sophomore Jeannette Cluskey and junior Vanessa Bagnato, playing at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively, each won their matches, 6-2, 6-4. Spider freshmen Lindsay Cox and Courtney Klein opened their spring careers with solid victories as did junior Casey Cohen who won at the No. 5 position.
The Spiders swept through the doubles competition as they won by a combined score of 24-10. Cluskey teamed with fellow sophomore Patty Devlin to win at the No. 1 spot, 8-5. Bagnato and Cox teamed together at the No. 2 spot and Cohen teamed with Klein at the No. 3 position as the tandems won their matches, 8-4 and 8-1, respectively.
