Koken To Play For GW Baseball
WASHINGTON, DC (August 14 2001) - George Washington head baseball coach Tom Walter announced today that freshman Nick Koken (Basking Ridge, NJ/Immaculata H.S.) will join the team for the 2002 season. Koken, a righthanded pitcher and infielder, had an 11-1 record with a 2.21 earned run average last season at Immaculata. He struck out 72 batters and walked only 24 in 61 innings pitched. As an infielder, Koken hit a robust .471, including seven home runs and 43 RBIs. He was a first team all-state selection by the Newark Star Ledger and the New Jersey Baseball Coaches Association. Koken also was named the Somerset County Player of the Year. "Nick is a welcome addition to our program." Walter said, "He throws between 84-86 mph and has a good breaking ball. He will get the opportunity to earn a spot in the rotation and in the infield." The Colonials finished the 2001 season with a school-record 38 victories and came within one game of advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992.
