Adam Belicic (Harrisburg, PA), Ryan Dacey (Annapolis, MD) and Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA) are playing for their respective organizations.
Belicic and Walker were drafted in the MLB First-Year Player draft June 5-7, along with junior Eric Mitchell (DuBois, PA). Dacey was not drafted and Mitchell plans to return to the Colonials for his senior season.
Belicic, a junior lefthanded pitcher and designated hitter, was selected by the Anaheim Angels organization in the 33rd round. As of June 29, he was 1-0 with a team-low 0.90 ERA in five games for the Butte (MT) Copper Kings of the Pioneer League. At GW, he was a second team All-Conference pick with a 9-4 record in 15 starts. He had a 3.73 earned-run average in 99 innings with 81 strikeouts as a Colonial.
Dacey, a senior shortstop, is batting .300 with a double and an RBI in three games for the Yakima (WA) Bears of the Northwest League. Yakima is the single A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Walker, a senior outfielder/first baseman who transferred to GW from South Carolina, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round. He is currently batting .250 with two RBIs and three walks for the Oneonta (NY) Tigers of the New York-Penn League. He was a first team All-Conference member with a .410 batting average in all 58 games. Walker had 13 home runs, 14 doubles and 72 RBIs. His father, Tom, played two seasons for the Tigers as well as for the Montreal Expos and St. Louis Cardinals.
Mitchell was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 42nd round. He was a second team All-A-10 pick batting .256 in 51 games.
GW (37-21) set a school record for most victories in a season and won a share of the A-10 West Division championship with Virginia Tech in 2000.
