Baseball Eliminated From A-10 Tournament

The Colonials Lose to Virginia Tech and Massachusetts, 9-1 and 9-8
BOYERTOWN, PA (May 20) - The George Washington baseball team lost twice on the second day of the Bell Atlantic Atlantic 10 Championships at Bear Stadium to be eliminated from the tournament. The Colonials lost to Virginia Tech 9-1 in the winner's bracket game, and was later defeated by Massachusetts 9-8 in a loser bracket game.
In the first game, the Hokies scored seven runs in the first six innings to help defeat the Colonials. The Colonials lone run in the game came off the bat of senior Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/Richland). Walker smacked a solo home run in the second inning, his 14th of the season, to close the Virginia Tech's lead to 4-1.
The Hokies scored four more unanswered runs to defeat GW 8-1.
In the second game of the day, the Colonials scored eight runs in the first two innings, but could not hold the lead as Massachusetts stormed back to win the game 9-8. The loss eliminated GW from the tournament.
Massachusetts and Virginia Tech will meet for the championship game on May 20 at 12:35 p.m.
The Colonials closed out their finest season in school history. GW set a school record for wins with 37 and finished the regular season as the Atlantic 10 Conference's West Division Co-Champion.
