Baseball Defeats George Mason 10-6

FAIRFAX, VA, (May 2, 2000) - George Washington scored all of its runs in the final three innings to rally from a 3-0 deficit and defeat George Mason, 10-6, in a non-conference college baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Raymond H. "Hap" Spuhler Field.
George Washington won its second straight game to improve to 32-19, while George Mason fell to 20-28-1.
George Mason scored a run in the fourth inning and two in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead. Junior Eddie Jordan (2-4) singled and later scored on a single by senior Brian Forthofer (2-4, 2 RBI) in the fourth, while Forthofer again drove in a run with a single in the sixth and a second run scored on an error.
Meanwhile, Patriot freshman Todd Simo hit the first batter he faced before retiring the next 19 in a row. George Washington sophomore Matt Krimmel singled to break up the no-hitter with one out in the top of the seventh, and after a fielder's choice resulted in another out, sophomore Mike Bassett hit a two-run home run, his 14th of the year. Junior Dan Rouhier (2-4) singled before freshman Tony Dokoupil and junior Eric Mitchell drew walks to load the bases and chase Simo, then freshman Jake Wald greeted Patriot freshman reliever Chris Murray with a two-run single. Murray hit sophomore Travis Crowder to reload the bases and walked senior Ryan Dacey to force in another run for a 5-3 Colonials lead.
George Mason came right back in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead as senior Greg Filson hit a three-run double, but the Colonials scored three runs in the eighth to take the lead for good as Rouhier had a run-scoring single and Mitchell hit a two-run single. Senior Matt Walker capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-run homer, his 10th of the year.
Junior Bryan Beggs (5-4) came on in the seventh inning and pitched the final three frames to earn the victory for George Washington. Junior Craig Haney (0-4), the third of five George Mason pitchers, took the loss.
George Mason travels to Towson Wednesday at 3 p.m.
