Sophomore Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) had two hits, including a solo home run to lead the Colonials to victory. Bassett, who hit his tenth home run of the season to give GW a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning, started the Colonials' game-winning rally in the ninth with a lead off double. Bassett later scored on a RBI single by junior Dan Rouhier (McLean, VA/St. Alban's) to break the 1-1 tie and give GW a 2-1 lead. A run-scoring single by junior Eric Mitchell (Thurmont, MD/Dubois) later in the inning gave GW a 3-1 advantage.
Junior Brian Beggs (Somerset, PA/Somerset) pitched two perfect innings in relief of sophomore Mike O'Connor (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph's) to pick up his third victory of the season. The win improves Beggs' record to 3-2 on the season. O'Connor pitched seven innings, only allowing one run and striking out four Towson batters.
The Tigers scored their only run in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Nick Agoglia (Roselle Park, NJ/Roselle Park).
The Colonials return to action this weekend when they host conference rival St. Bonaventure in a three-game series. A double header is scheduled for Saturday beginning at noon, and the final game is scheduled for noon on Sunday.
