Richmond Defeats Colonials 12-8

Richmond, VA (March 21) - The George Washington baseball team lost to the University of Richmond 12-8 at Pitt Field in Richmond, VA, snapping the Colonials' 10-game winning streak. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
The Spiders scored four times in each of the first two innings to help defeat the Colonials. Freshman third baseman David Reaver tripled in two runs and scored on a double by Dan Phipps to give the Spiders a 4-2 lead after one inning. Freshman Matt Craig doubled and scored in Richmond's second inning to help the Spiders to an 8-2 advantage after two.
Seniors Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/U. of South Carolina) and Ryan Dacey (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) both went 4-4 to lead the Colonials at the plate. Walker smacked a two-run homer in the first inning for the Colonials, his fifth of year. Dacey hit a solo homer, his first of the season, in the third inning. Both Dacey and Walker finished the day a triple shy of the cycle.
On the mound, freshman Glenn Skutnik (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) made his first start of the season and took the loss for the Colonials. The loss drops Skutnik's record to 1-1 for the year.
The win improved Richmond's record to 12-10, while the Colonials fell to 14-10.
GW travels to Annapolis, MD tomorrow to take on the Naval Academy at 2:30 p.m.
