Baseball Sweeps Two Games from Cleveland State

Washington, DC (Mar. 18) - The George Washington baseball team swept a double-header versus Cleveland State 5-2 and 8-3 at Barcroft Park to extend their winning streak to nine games.
The Colonials got strong performances from their starting pitching and used timely hitting to defeat the Vikings.
In the first game, senior Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/South Carolina) provided all the offense that GW needed. Walker hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Colonials a 2-1 lead,and in the fifth inning, with the game tied and bases loaded, he hit a base-clearing double to give GW a 5-2 lead.
Freshman Greg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) threw his second complete game of the year. After allowing two early runs, Conden settled down to strike-out thirteen Viking hitters. The win improves Conden's record to 3-0 for the year.
In the second game, GW jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Sophomore Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) singled home two runs to take the early lead.
Sophomore Chris Worth (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) earned his third win of the season. Worth allowed only three runs and struck-out seven Cleveland State batters. The win improves his record to 3-4 on the season.
For the second game, freshman Chris Barry (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius), senior Ryan Dacey (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) and Walker led the way for the Colonials. Barry collected three hits and a RBI, and Dacey had two hits. Walker added a RBI double and his fourth home run of the year. Walker collected five hits on the day and had seven RBI's.
With the wins, GW improves its record to 13-10 on the season and Cleveland State falls to 3-11.
The Colonials return to the diamond tomorrow when they host Cleveland State in the final game of the three game series at Barcroft Park beginning at 12:00 p.m.
