Brian Sereno serves as Associate Athletics Director/Communications having been with the university since 2011. He serves as the sport administrator for baseball and men's water polo and is a senior member of the Department of Athletics External Operations team which oversees all external functions of the Department of Athletics. Sereno has lead all external efforts and strategic initiatives, including ticket sales, sponsorship, marketing, communications, branding, creative video, graphic design, digital media, and campus and community engagement. He's also served on the Atlantic 10's Sport Competition Committee. Reporting to both the university's Marketing & Communications office and Department of Athletics, he works to ensure alignment between university leadership and Athletics.
An alumnus of the GW School of Business master's program in sports management, he oversees the development and execution of all athletics communications and public relations, including serving as the lead spokesperson for the Department of Athletics and Recreation, developing and overseeing communications strategy for GW's 20 intercollegiate sports, and providing counsel to the Department of Athletics and university leadership on communications strategies, crisis communications and tactics, for both internal and external audiences, while maintaining constant awareness of litigation and legislation affecting the college sports landscape. Additionally Sereno spearheads all television and radio broadcast relationships for GW Athletics and the negotiation of contracts. He also leads media and social media training for coaches and student-athletes, with an eye toward brand advancement.
Sereno came to the university from the Washington Wizards, where he served as Director of Basketball Communications. In that role, Sereno served as a team spokesperson and communications strategist, traveling with the team and directing the day-to-day operations of the communications department, providing daily media relations and communications support for management, coaches, players and other departments within the organization. An eight-year veteran working in the NBA, Sereno also was involved in developing the Wizards' online and social media strategy and content, in a tenure that spanned the final playing season of Michael Jordan through a visual and logo branding enhancement and the drafting of #1 overall draft pick John Wall.
He holds an undergraduate degree from Syracuse University as a Bachelor of Science in marketing, and is originally from Holliston, Massachusetts.
