Softball Plays Maryland, Dayton Away This Week

GW softball hits the road this week for four games outside the District. First, GW goes to College Park, Md., on Wednesday to take on Maryland, before resuming A-10 play this weekend against Dayton in Ohio. Wednesday's contest at Maryland will be streamed on BigTen+.

GW has been crushing on offense in the month of March so far, putting up substantially higher batting numbers since returning home and starting A-10 play. Over the last eight games, GW's slash line reads: .313 Avg./.482 SLG/.393 OBP, up from .266 Avg./.374 SLG/.372 OBP in the Revolutionaries' first 14 games. Since returning home, five Revolutionaries have OPSs north of .900, including Ashley Corpuz (1.518), Cece Smith (1.350), Daniella Lew (1.005), Kaylee Layfield (.991) and Cadence Gilliland (.960). Nine of GW's 13 total home runs were hit in the last eight games, sent off the bats of six different players.

Maryland enters Wednesday's contest at 12-14 (1-5 Big Ten), ranked at 109 in RPI. The Terps are 6-2 on home field, including an undefeated 5-0 against non-conference opponents. GW has won the two most recent meetings in the series (2016 & 2019), however Maryland owns the all-time series over GW, 11-3.

Dayton enters the weekend series at 10-9 (2-4 A-10), ranked 216 in RPI. The Flyers were swept at home in its A-10 opener by Loyola Chicago, before winning two of three at Fordham last weekend. Izzy Kemp was named the conference's player of the week last week for the third time this year, striking out 27 batters in 13.2 IP vs. Fordham. The all-time series between GW and Dayton is tied, 29-29, however the Revolutionaries enter the weekend winners of five of the last six in the series.Â
