GW pitcher/utility Cece Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Smith earned the award after a standout series vs. SLU, excelling at the plate and in the circle over three games for the Revolutionaries.Â
The Atlanta native has come on a big way offensively in her junior season after primarily pitching in her first and second years. Smith was 6-8 at the plate in the SLU series, smacking three doubles and walking twice with one RBI and two runs scored. She had an OPS of 1.925 and .750 average as she was effective at the plate all series. After Tuesday's game, Smith still owns the best OPS in the A-10 (1.492).
In the circle, Smith threw 13.0 innings, making two starts vs. the Billikens. Smith allowed just nine total hits and four earned runs over both games, striking out 16 batters along the way and picking up a win in the series finale.
Smith and GW look to regroup tomorrow with a midweek matchup vs. Georgetown. First pitch at the GW Softball Field is set for 3:00 p.m.Â
