CHANDLER, Ariz. - GW golf completed its season-opening swing with a 12th-place finish at the Whirlwind Invitational, firing a 1-under 863 as a team across Monday and Tuesday. The 863 marks GW's lowest team score since the same number at last October's RedHawk Intercollegiate.

Maxime Lam led George Washington with a 1-over 217 thanks to an opening round 69 on Monday morning. Benji Garcia Moreira had the best round of the tournament for the Buff & Blue with a 5-under 67 on Tuesday, carding six birdies in the process.

USC won its own team event with a 52-under 812, 12 shots better than second place Arizona State.

GW is back in action on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 when it makes the short trip to Annapolis, Md., to take part in The Goat, hosted by Navy.
