Chrissy Schoonmaker has stepped down as George Washington softball head coach to accept the same role at the University of Houston.
"We thank Chrissy for her leadership over the past four seasons," said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Lipitz. "She leaves the program in a terrific position to continue to compete for championships in the Atlantic 10. We wish her continued success at Houston."
"I would like to thank George Washington University, along with our extraordinary student-athletes, coaching staffs and support staff for their contributions during my tenure here," said Schoonmaker. "Seeing our student-athletes thrive and have life-changing experiences was incredible. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a guardian of the program and it was a privilege to be surrounded by such incredible people. Our time together was special and I wish the team continued success."
Schoonmaker recorded a 113-92 (.551) overall record, including a 56-46 (.549) mark in conference play. Led by All-American Sierra Lange and A-10 Player of the Year Alexa Williams, Schoonmaker won A-10 Coach of the Year honors in her debut season in 2022, en route to the team's second-straight A-10 regular season title.Â
GW softball student-athletes earned a Graduation Success Rate of 94% or higher and a perfect Academic Progress Rate of 1000 in each of the past three seasons.  George Washington also hosted the 2025 A-10 Softball Tournament on its home field this spring.  Â
A national search for the next Head Coach of GW's softball team will begin immediately.
