Softball Splits Third Straight Saturday, Plays Dayton Sunday for Series

GW softball finished Saturday's doubleheader vs. Dayton with mixed results, beating the Flyers 9-2 in game one before suffering a 6-3 setback in game two. GW's record moved to 14-11 (5-3 A-10) after the doubleheader.

The Revolutionaries brought their power with them to Ohio, homering five times across Saturday's doubleheader. Four of the five came in game one, as Ashley Corpuz, Cece Smith, Emi Todoroki and Sydney Hogue all went deep in the win.

All four of GW's game-one home runs came in the first three innings as the Revolutionaries raced to a 5-0 lead. GW's edge was comfortable from then on as the Revolutionaries' early homers were enough for the win.

Smith made the start in game one and earned the win as she continued to shine as a two-way star on Saturday. She tallied a game-one high three hits and three RBI at the plate, also going the distance in the circle, allowing just six hits and two runs across all seven innings.

GW and Dayton went deep into game two in a scoreless tie, until the Flyers dropped three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. GW's comeback attempt was close as the Revolutionaries brought the game-tying run to the plate after starting the final inning down 6-0, but GW only mustered half the deficit back before falling in game two.

Corpuz went deep again for GW in the seventh inning of game two, bringing her career home run total to 33, just three shy of tying Victoria Valos for second all-time in program history.

The Revolutionaries and Flyers return for the series finale tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. GW is 2-2 in Sunday games this season after splitting opening doubleheaders.
